The Roots of Catholic Social Teaching
"For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me, naked and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in prison and you visited me.' "
Matthew 25:35-36
Many people think Catholic Social Teaching is something new. After all, there was never a complete document on it by a Pope until Pope Leo XIII wrote Rerum Novarum in 1891. Yet, if we truly understanding church teaching we learn that our social teaching goes back to Jesus’ words in Matthew 25:31-46 to feed the hungry. In fact, we can also find its roots in the Old Testament. In this presentation, Fr. Jeff explores the roots of Catholic Social Teaching and use it to talk about how church teaching in general develops.
